Vineyards of Kröv

Kröver Nacktarsch

The most well-known Kröver Nacktarsch is an ancient vineyard designation and forms today the Großlage excluding the district Kröv. Therefore, only wines from our community can be marketed as Nacktarsch. For our wine friends the original origin is guaranteed at all times.

Kröver Kirchlay

Kröver Kirchlay

Above the church and the centre of Kröv, the Kirchlay vineyards rise up to the forest. This protects the vineyards from cold air currents from the plateau, especially when the spring frosts of the "ice saint" threaten the young shoots of the vines.
The Kirchlay vineyard faces south-southeast.
The lower, slightly sloping slope consists of deep, stony and water-storing loamy soil with a high fertility. In the upper, steeper area, the slate debris increases with sufficient clay content. This soil can bind a lot of rainwater and therefore, especially in hot and dry summers, considerable and full-bodied Riesling wines grow here. Kirchlay Riesling is also ideal for refining into first-class vintage sparkling wine.
Riesling-Qualitätsperlwein from Kirchlay is fruity and invigorating.
Expressive Weißburgunder, Blaue Spätburgunder and strong, aromatic Dornfelder wines also find the right soil here.

Kröver Letterlay and Kröver Steffensberg

Kröver Letterlay and Steffensberg

Here in the equal steep slopes of Letterlay and Steffensberg the work in the "Wingert" is tedious and sweaty, but worthwhile .
Soft and well-ventilated Devonian clay slate is stored on rocky ground, in shades from brown and blue-grey to black. It is rich in minerals that are easily absorbed by the roots of the vines. A good water supply in the skeleton-rich soil promotes the growth of the vines and thus the quality of the grapes, even in hot, summerly dry phases.
The southern position and a slope, partly up to about 30 degrees, i. e. 60% slope, guarantee optimal solar radiation. The winters near the river also benefit from the reflection of the large water surface of the Mosel.
This is the home of the Riesling! Here grow special Riesling wines, characterized by minerality, fine fruity elegance and unique character.

Kröver Paradies

Kröver Paradies

The largest of Kröv's vineyards is called Paradise and is also south facing and can therefore capture sunlight from early to late. In the flat vineyards above the swimming pool, on alluvial land of the Mosel, the grape variety Rivaner (Müller Thurgau) finds optimal growing conditions.
The wines, mostly dry or medium-dry, taste mild, flowery and often paired with a fine nutmeg tone. The Riesling wines growing here taste hearty and native.
In the ascending, steeper slope, the soils resemble the neighbouring Kirchlay vineyard; at the bottom slate valley gravel, at the top crumbly, soft clay slate; ideal for a light, fruity Riesling, for classic Weißburgunder, Spätburgunder and Dornfelder.
